Lyrics quiz answers
Dec. 14th, 2004 01:52 pm(After a slight delay in which I had to go find one of the answers, having completely forgotten what song it was.) Most of them, I'm not at all surprised -- but there was at least one that I really thought someone would get!
1. But sometimes I will ask the moon/ Where it shined upon you last, "The One Who Knows", Dar Williams
4. I've made the same mistake/ I know the awful ache/ Of a little heart that's been double crossed, "Tell Me More and More and Then Some", Nina Simone -- I grant that this was sort of a curveball, given the change in genres
5. I'm on my knees once again made aware/ of the world out there, "Now I Know", Cowboy Junkies
7. You commissioned my love/ You set me searching/ Where did you think that I would find you?, "As Rachel Waited", Minna Bromberg -- okay, the odds were tiny that anyone would get this; although she has released several albums, I've only heard of her because I went to college with her. Still, strongly recommended if you like guitar-and-woman's-voice folk.
8. Armoured cars sail the sky/ They’re pink at dawn, "Pilots", Goldfrapp -- Does anyone else in the world listen to this band? Although to be fair, I wouldn't have known what these lyrics were if I weren't trying to make this quiz.
9. Just when the day finds you/ Turned back to front/ Stay clear/ Rescue is near, "Lifted", Eurythmics -- Who rocks like Annie Lennox, dudes? I was tempted to use the lyrics to "Doubleplusgood", but not only would it not be random, I don't even have the song on my computer, so that'd be cheating.
10. From my hotel room, watching the half-moon/ Bleeding its light like a lamb, "History of Us", Indigo Girls -- This was a big surprise. Was I wrong to think that 75% of the people on my friends list would have this album, or have people just not really listened to it since college?
13. What once I took as remedies/ Are only chalk hypotheses, "All That That Implies", Michael Penn -- "All that that implies are lies"
15. Now, will it be my fault if/ I take your love and throw it wide?/ You might restrain me, but could you really blame me? "Mouth", Merrill Bainbridge -- Dude, I so love this album. Why does no one have this album but me?
16. Did the clown/ Make you smile/ He was only your fool for a while, "Carnival Town", Norah Jones -- To be fair, this song has very few lyrics
17. Oh a twilight time in New York City/ Descending subway stairs/ The man whistling out a tune/ I paid a dollar for my fare, "Holy Spirit", Michelle Shocked
20. I say Jack be nimble Jack fall dead/ Jack bend over and give Jilly head, "Color Me Once", Violent Femmes
