the song of mehitabel
by Don Marquis

this is the song of mehitabel
of mehitabel the alley cat
as i wrote you before boss
mehitabel is a believer
in the pythagorean
theory of the transmigration
of the soul and she claims
that formerly her spirit
was incarnated in the body
of cleopatra
that was a long time ago
and one must not be
surprised if mehitabel
has forgotten some of her
more regal manners

Rather a large number of those are HP-related in one way or another. Ah well. I came late to the icon game. In honor of my icons, here's the least-recently-used one, a graph generated by my master's project data.

(Because I'm a sucker for these things.) Fire up your MP3 or other player, put it on 'shuffle' and show what ten songs came up first.

1. Santa Monica - Everclear
2. Gigantor - Helmet
3. Snakedriver - The Jesus and Mary Chain
4. I Wanna Be With You - The Sneetches with Shoes
5. Bell Bottomed Tear - The Beautiful South
6. Swingin' from your Crystal Chandelier - Austin Lounge Lizards
7. Carry Me Away - Concrete Blonde
8. From Where I Am [Instrumental] - Enya
9. Dust in the Wind - Sarah Brightman
10. Horse Tears - Goldfrapp

Interestingly (to me, anyway), the first four items on this list are either from soundtracks (the Crow, Saturday Morning Cartoons) or mix CDs given to me by other people ([livejournal.com profile] pyrric, [livejournal.com profile] theodosia). And then there's the Sarah Brightman album, most of which I hate with the fury of at least a dozen red-hot fiery suns but haven't gotten around to deleting yet.

Unexpectedly tagged by [livejournal.com profile] denonymous with a music meme!

"list five songs that you are currently digging. it doesn't matter what
genre they are from, whether they have words, or even if they're any
good, but they must be songs you're really enjoying right now. post
these instructions, the artist, and the song in your journal, then tag
five other people to see what they're listening to."

Hmm. Excellent question. This is particularly hard because what I've mostly been doing is going through trying to rate all my songs. This sounds dumb, but it actually means I'm getting to hear all of them, particularly the ones I'm not very familiar with (and therefore can't just rate by looking at the title). Thus all the songs on my Most Played list are ones that I don't know very well (or keep not remembering which ones they are) so I have to listen to them several times before I can rate them. Still, I'll give it a shot. Not to be outdone, however, mine goes to six as well:

1. Annie Lennox - Cold
2. Poe - Spanish Doll
3. June Tabor and The Oyster Band - All Tomorrow's Parties
4. S.A.L.T. by the Orb.
5. Lamb - Softly
6. Haysi Fantayzee - Shiny Shiny

Extra-bonus piece: Giles's song from the Buffy episode "Restless". I used this piece to test my homework in a Windows programming class years ago. "Strange, it's not like anything we've faced before..."

I know people are tired of tagging, but hey -- I never got tagged before! So (trying to pick people I think might actually read this), how about [livejournal.com profile] vwbug, [livejournal.com profile] shayheyred,[livejournal.com profile] noradeirdre, [livejournal.com profile] the_leewit, and [livejournal.com profile] pyrric? Only if you want, obviously.

And now, back to trigonometry.

Y'all are probably tired of this, but what the hell. The other option is actually doing my homework.

From [livejournal.com profile] aimeejmc:
1. Post a list of 10 TV shows you watch/ed
2. Have your friends list guess your favourite character from each.
3. When someone guesses your favourite character, bold the title.

Some of these are gonna be hella easy (and I don't think there's any point in including Smallville). Some of them, I waffle a little on my favorite character, but I'll count either of the possibilities as a correct guess.

1. Buffy
2. Angel - Wesley, [livejournal.com profile] la_perkins
3. Firefly
4. Stargate SG-1 - Daniel, [livejournal.com profile] vwbug
5. MASH - Hawkeye, [livejournal.com profile] seankozma
6. Wonderfalls - Jaye, [livejournal.com profile] la_perkins
7. ER - Doug Ross, [livejournal.com profile] seankozma
8. West Wing - CJ, [livejournal.com profile] vwbug
9. CSI (Las Vegas)
10. WKRP in Cincinnati - Bailey Quarters, [livejournal.com profile] dxmachina

Wow, I had a pretty hard time coming up with all of those!

Jumping on the bandwagon...

10 Things I've Done That You Probably Haven't

1. Gotten a letter from Madeleine L'Engle about a poem I wrote.
2. Appeared in an issue of Jane magazine in a bra and shorts.
3. Run across Isaac Asimov's employee record while doing some filing.
4. Been to a wedding at President Taft's house.
5. Hung out at monasteries waiting for my mother.
6. Gotten the Governor's Amex statement in the mail (not by accident, exactly).
7. Been prom queen... in college.
8. Stayed in the building used for exterior shots in Peter O'Toole's "The Ruling Class".
9. Had a poem read on TV (not the same one Ms. L'Engle read).
10. Walked past Elie Wiesel's office door.

(Okay, #10 many people have done, whether they're aware of it or not. But to be honest, my life's fairly boring.)
